Explanation of LOF:
Stereotypes:
- The LOF is not for me, I just want a pet dog
- I don't want to compete with my dog so no need for LOF
- LOF is only a technique for breeders to sell their dog more expensively, as much as I buy a dog from LOF parents but which is not LOF
Reality:
- The LOF guarantees that your dog is indeed a purebred dog, it is like the family record book for humans. We can tell you that the puppy was born to LOF parents but what guarantee do you have?
- What a disappointment if your dog does not look like what you hoped for when, as you grow up, you realize that your dog is moving away from the standard.
- The LOF allows you to know exactly the parents of your puppy, and to see the genetic selection that has been made so that your puppy is in good health and has a good character.
- A breeder's dog is also a dog whose parents have been selected for their health, most breeders test the parents for hip and elbow dysplasia, MDR1 drug sensitivity and eye defects, which are Genetically transmitted “diseases”. Yet 95% of a breeder's production goes to a family for companionship. This work on genetics is done to guarantee you a healthy dog who will have little risk of developing these defects.
- A LOF dog comes from two LOF and Confirmed parents, the litter of your dog must be declared to the SCC and your dog must have a birth certificate.
So much for the explanation of the LOF.
Now you want to confirm your dog for breeding, beauty contests, obedience competitions or anything else, here are the breed criteria as well as the progress of the confirmation session.
Criteria for Confirmation of your dog:
-Size at the withers for females (with + or - 1 cm): 46 cm to 53cm
-Height at the withers for males (with + or - 1 cm): 51 to 58 cm
-The proportions must conform to the standard.
-Ears should neither be hanging nor completely erect
-The dog must be able to be handled by the judge without showing aggression or fear
-Eyes must be completely surrounded by colors
-The color of the coat must conform to that described in the standard (no white spots on the back for example)
-The eyelid must be completely pigmented, either black for tricolor black and merle blue and brown for tricolor red and merle red.
-The dog must have all its teeth
If only one of these points is not respected your dog will not be able to be confirmed.
Procedure for a confirmation:
You can have your dog confirmed at a dog show.
You must present yourself at the indicated ring with your birth certificate, the judge will examine your dog and sign the certificate if your dog meets the breed criteria.
You will need to send this certificate with your dog's LOF request along with a check for €25. You will receive your dog's final LOF a few weeks later.
There is no maximum age for confirmation of your dog but a minimum age (12 months).
