What is Barf?

barf dog

BARF means “Biologically Appropriate

Raw Food” which means in French

“Biologically appropriate raw food”.

The BARF diet is a natural approach

of the dog's diet. With this in mind, the choice of food is based on respect for the animal's own physiology. Since the dog is an omnivore, it is appropriate to offer it an omnivore's diet, based mainly on meat, raw bones and offal. This type of diet is based in particular on the idea that the food choices of wild animals are guided by their biological needs. In nature, animals instinctively choose the diet best suited to their metabolism, a choice that carnivorous domestic animals are no longer able to make, quite simply because it is humans who provide for their daily needs.

How to break through?

How do I transition my adult dog to BARF?    It's very simple to make your dog young for 48 hours. After insert white meat (poultry) for 1 week then red meat and bones.

Get started:

Meat :
First of all, you need a raw meat diet. . . meat.

The menus :
70% carcass (poultry/rodent) + 25% varied meat + 5% offal

Quantity :
It is necessary to calculate for a puppy 6% of its weight and for an adult between 2% and 3% of its weight, depending on its activity. Of course if you see your dog losing weight, go to 4% and adjust according to the dog.

We feed our dogs once a day, except for our puppies who are lucky enough to have their meal split in two.

The oils :
For the quantity: 1 tablespoon / 10kg
we are used to giving a tablespoon also to our small breeds (yorkshire and bichon) because this type of breed needs more fatty acid.

You can vary the oils, each providing different nutrients (favor cold extracted oils)

- Olive oil
- Sunflower oil
- Blend of 4 oils
-Salmon Oil: Rich in essential polyunsaturated fatty acids. (Omega 3 and Omega 6) (pay attention to quality with MDR1)
- Cod liver oil: Cod liver oil is mainly used to combat anemia, rickets and growth problems. Vitamins D and A are soluble in fat and can therefore accumulate in the tissues; it must be used moderately to avoid hypervitaminosis.
- Fish oil: Rich in essential fatty acids, very good for the coat, immune defenses and allergies.

Oils provide essential fatty acids to the dog's body.

Vegetables & Fruits:

For quantity: 1 tablespoon / 10 kg of dog (like oil). They provide vitamins, mineral salts, carotene (for pigmentation), can help digestion,. . . and more.

- Spinach

- Raw cabbage (sauerkraut): Contains 13 vitamins, iron and minerals, it is the most interesting vegetable
- Carrots: You can use many vegetables. However, avoid fibrous vegetables (except carrots) which are difficult to digest.

Dairy:

.Dairy is essentially there to provide calcium in your dog's diet. We distribute it once a week or several small doses throughout the week

- Natural yogurts

Food Supplements:-

Garlic: For deworming and against fleas

Brewer's yeast - contains a lot of calcium

The “Laughing Cow” Egg yolk shells (or whole egg): Rich in calcium

Spirulina: maritime algae promoting digestion and accentuating hair pigmentation. Excellent source of minerals and calcium

Your questions:

- Is it true that a BARF dog produces less feces?

Yes, digestion being improved, with only natural products, stools are reduced in quantity and size.

- Is it true that a BARF dog has better digestion?

Yes, BARF being a raw and natural diet the body is better adapted for digestion, so it is done in a few hours, unlike kibble where it is much slower.
