The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, does not come from Australia, its real country would be Basque (between France and Spain) and the breed would have developed in the USA, they also hold the standard.

The Basques had the source dogs of this breed. They were used for livestock in the mountains. It was while looking for work in other regions and countries that they took their dog with them.
Some made it to Australia when that country was known for its wool and therefore its sheep.
The Americans, in 1900, nicknamed them "Little Blue" because many of them wore the blue merle coat. Since many came from Australia, they were nicknamed Australian Shepherd Dogs, nicknamed Aussie. It was then that the breed began to be developed. In France it was only in 1988 that this breed was recognized by the SCC following a publication error in the magazine "Chien 2000" the previous year where they confused this breed with the Kelpie (much smaller) . It was only in 1996 that the FCI recognized the breed. (but only on a “provisional basis”). It was in 1997 that the breed club was recognized and with it the breed itself. In 2007 he was affiliated with the SCC. In 2008 this club renamed itself CFBA (French Australian Shepherd Club).

Currently the Australian Shepherd is very fashionable, because its intelligence, its loyalty to its master, its sense of work, its speed, its kindness, its character, and above all its beauty make it a sublime dog which can also be a dog. family, as a very good herding dog (sheep, cows or horses) or sports dog (Agility, Obedience, Cani-cross, etc.)
